Phoenix Photography Nashville · Project in Development
A participatory photographic exploration of place, memory, identity, and belonging in a changing Nashville—seen through the voices, faces, and answers of its people.
Concept Film
This moving concept visualization follows the project from individual portraiture and a single question—“Where is Nashville?”—through public participation and the gradual emergence of a collective image.
Where Is Nashville? begins with twelve contemporary Nashvillians. Each person sits for an original portrait and responds to one deceptively simple question: Where is Nashville?
Their faces and words become The Record—a photographic and textual account of Nashville as described by people living within it. Their answers, joined by responses from exhibition visitors, build The Answer: an evolving collective image that cannot be fully seen until enough individual voices have contributed to it.
The project is not a search for one definitive Nashville. It is an invitation to encounter contradictory perspectives, recognize who is present, notice what is changing, and consider how a city becomes visible through the people who experience it differently.
Project Framework
Original contemporary portraits with direct gaze, sculptural light, and human texture.
A tactile, tintype-inspired visual language connecting present-day Nashvillians with the feeling of an enduring record.
Monumental portrait encounters designed to make people—not Nashville clichés—the visual center of the experience.
Individual voices accumulate over time, gradually revealing a collective image no single participant controls.
Where Is Nashville? is an evolving Phoenix Photography concept currently in development. Photographic methodology and the core participation model are established; technical prototyping, final mosaic translation, fabrication, site adaptation, and public interaction testing remain part of the work.
An Evolving Record
